Post production is often not a part of the discussion when an independent filmmaker has a vision for their film. However, post really begins the moment you choose the camera you are going to shoot your project with. Once you’ve decided on the look you’d like for your film, it’s time to start thinking about how you are going to get the files through the pipeline to achieve it. The more informed you can be about your workflow and what deliverables you’d like to finish with, the easier things will be through post, and the more you can stay on a planned budget that will pay for it all.
Join me next Tuesday evening at FILM INDEPENDENT for my presentation DON’T WAIT TO “FIX IT IN POST”!, a workshop that will cover what you’ll need to think about before you’re green-lit, in order for you to be prepared for post production. I’ll go over the realistic costs of what it might take you to finish your film and how to budget for them, workflow issues, how to think about your post schedule, deciding on your deliverables and more.
DON’T WAIT TO “FIX IT IN POST”! will be held on 9/11/12 at 7:30pm at Film Independent 9911 W. Pico Blvd, 11th Fl., LA, CA 90035. It is a free event for Film Independent members. For more information, check out Film Independent’s event page and please RSVP at firstname.lastname@example.org.
